The Constitution is what created our government. The constitution creates 3 branches of government and explain how each branch should function. The Constitution was written many years ago but it works that's why it is still used today. The three branches that were created through the constitution are the legislative branch, executive branch and the judicial branch. The legislative branch's purpose is to make what citizens want and need into laws. The legislative branch makes our nations government a representative democracy because we elect people to represent their people's needs in the government. Congress is part of the legislative branch which divides into 2 parts: Senate and the House of Reps. The senate is in charge of representing the needs of the citizens in each state (6 year terms). Congress's part is to represent the needs of citizens that live in the small districts within the state. Both the Senate and Congress need to approve a bill before it can go to the President and become a law. Congress can only pass laws about items on the list, such as collecting taxes and declaring war. The executive branch is in charge of actually putting laws into action and enforce them. Right now Obama is in charge of the executive branch because he is the President with the help of the vice president as well (Joe Biden). The judicial branch is there to explain what laws actually mean and if they are being followed. This branch is lead by the supreme court and is also responsible for reviewing laws and deciding cases involving state's rights. Ultimately the 3 branches help our government be fair and not abuse it power. The branches distribute power so that no branch can have too much power and then turn into Autocracy.
